Make an Impact
As we seek to be the church in a hurting world, the following are different ways to make a difference through service and mission in and beyond our community

Early Response Team Basic Training
Sunday, November 1 | Register by September 15
Last November, just weeks after Hurricane Helene struck the Southeast, ERT volunteers from the Greater New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania Conferences traveled to the North Georgia Conference to help. Communities were reeling from high winds and flooding. Our teams cleared debris, tarped damaged roofs, removed fallen trees, and most importantly, offered a ministry of presence—listening, praying, and reminding people they were not forgotten.
This is the kind of work Early Response Teams (ERT) are trained to do. ERTs are specially prepared United Methodist volunteers who respond in the early days after disasters, offering both practical help and compassionate care. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) provides this training to ensure teams work safely, effectively, and in coordination with local authorities.
You can be part of this ministry. A Basic ERT Training will be held on Saturday, November 1, from 9am to 4pm at Montclair State University. If you are already an ERT and are just re-certifying, you only need to attend from noon to 4pm. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Detailed location and parking information will be provided after registration.
This training is open to all adults (18 years or older)—you do not need to be a member of the United Methodist Church. Spots are limited, and registration closes on September 15. Be ready to serve with compassion, skill, and faith when our neighbors need it most.

Support UMCOR General Fund
Anytime
Support the work of The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), the humanitarian relief and development arm of Global Ministries. UMCOR comes alongside those who suffer from natural or human-caused disasters – famine, hurricane, war, flood, fire or other events—to alleviate suffering and serve as a source of help and hope for the vulnerable. UMCOR provides relief, response and long-term recovery grants when events overwhelm a community’s ability to recover on their own. UMCOR also provides technical support and training for partners to address emerging and ongoing issues related to disaster relief, recovery, and long-term health and development.
