Meet Our Staff

Pastoral Team

  • Chris Heckert serves as the Senior Pastor of HUMC, bringing a heart for mission and the arts to his ministry.  Chris has a passion for sharing the message that God is love and the church nurtures individuals in that love through meaningful relationships and experiences.  Prior to coming to Haddonfield, he served as the Senior Pastor of Morrow Memorial UMC, as the Associate General Secretary for Mission Communication at the General Board of Global Ministries, and also served other churches in New Jersey and Western Pennsylvania. He enjoys photography, playing the guitar, and spending time with his wife and two daughters.

  • JiSun Yang serves HUMC as Associate Pastor for Spiritual Formation. She loves to share God’s stories of love and listen to the stories of people. She was raised and worked in South Korea as a programmer and project manager before she came to the States. She is a graduate of Drew Theological School with an M.Div degree. Prior coming to HUMC, she was a children’s pastor and a local pastor in several local churches in Greater New Jersey. She enjoys learning new things and playing table tennis with her husband. 

Program Team

  • Megan Martin is a graduate of McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College). She studied Communication and Religious Studies and grew up in an ecumenical household, leading to an active church life within both the Roman Catholic and The United Methodist denominations. In her free time, Megan is an avid reader and loves to take nature photographs. Megan has seven nieces and nephews who also keep her busy.

  • Julie Robertson is a graduate of The College of New Jersey with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration: Management. She has been a volunteer for the HUMC children’s program since 2005 and became a child care provider in 2015. In her free time, Julie likes to discover new music, watch movies, and read.

  • Matthew Smith serves as the Organist and Choir Master at Haddonfield United Methodist Church. Matt graduated in May 2017 with a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance from Westminster Choir College. Born and raised in Geneva, Illinois, he attended Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree with a concentration in organ and piano. While there, he worked primarily as an accompanist for voice faculty studios and as an assistant music director/keyboardist in the pit orchestra for various music theatre productions. He was awarded First Place at the Joan Lippincott Competition for Excellence in Organ Performance at Westminster Choir College in February 2017 and continues to perform recitals on piano and organ in various places.

  • Pastor Cricket attended Drew Theological School after accepting God’s call to be a deacon while working with Hurricane Sandy Recovery Volunteers. She is passionate about mission work locally and overseas, disaster response, climate care, youth faith formation, and advocacy and inclusion for children and adults of all abilities.

  • Jessica Thomas is the Director of Contemporary Worship at HUMC bringing with her several years of music ministry experience from Illinois, Arizona, and Cape May, NJ.  A graduate of Millikin University’s Commercial Music program with an emphasis in voice performance, Jessica’s love for communicating faith through song is only strengthened through the community and shared spirit of the dedicated musicians of HUMC. When not at the church, Jessica is Head of the Vocal Music Academy at Camden County Technical Schools at the Gloucester Township Campus.  She is mom to son, Greyson, and daughter, Elandra.

Office/Building Team

  • Jaime Charlton is the Office Administrator at HUMC. When Jaime is not in the office, she is spending time with her grandchildren and husband.

  • Karen Bertoldi has been working at HUMC since 2012. She enjoys spending time with her family and days at the beach at her shore house.

  • Hugh, whose family has continuously lived in Haddonfield since the 1800s, is a graduate of Hampden University. He worked for Verizon CTS/OCS Group for 30 years, the mortgage and banking industry for 10 years, and most recently worked for the Haddonfield Fortnightly.

    He is most proud of his two sons and daughter. His sons live in Denver and Tampa and own MadChiller Cafes in Tampa. His daughter is a graduate of Georgetown University and works for Discovery Education as a producer, writer, and talent.

    Hugh lives with his wife, Renay, and enjoys boating and fishing. He joined the staff team as custodian in December.

Community Ministries

  • Jenn's 30 year career in education has been on the middle school and preschool levels as a teacher and administrator. She is also a registered yoga teacher. Jenn is a foodie and enjoys traveling with her husband, John. Jenn's four children are all HUMECC alumni.

  • New Jersey Master Chorale is delighted to have Jason Vodicka, DMA, as Interim Director for the Spring 2022 season. Dr. Vodicka is Chair of the Music Education Department at Westminster Choir College and was formerly director of the Harrisburg Choral Society, among many other qualifications.
